House Intel Committee subpoenas McCain associate over Trump dossier sources, committee confirms

A former State Department official with ties to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was subpoenaed by the House Intelligence Committee Wednesday because of his reported firsthand knowledge of the sources behind the salacious dossier on President Trump, the committee confirmed to Fox News.
Chairman Devin Nunes issued the subpoena to David Kramer, a senior fellow at the McCain Institute for International Leadership, on Wednesday afternoon to obtain the names of sources behind the dossier, the contents of which are not yet confirmed.

The House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed a former State Department official who has ties to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., over his connection to the source of the controversial dossier on President Trump.

Chairman Devin Nunes issued the subpoena to David Kramer, a senior fellow at the McCain Institute, who visited ex-British spy and dossier author Christopher Steele in London in November 2016. It was during this trip that he received a copy of the document, which McCain requested. The Arizona senator reportedly wanted to view “the pre-election memoranda on a confidential basis,” the court filings state.

Two months later, in January, McCain handed the document over to former FBI director James Comey.

The subpoena orders Kramer to appear before the committee on January 11, 2018.

Trump has repeatedly criticized the dossier, calling it “a pile of garbage” in a tweet this week.

“WOW, @foxandfrlends “Dossier is bogus. Clinton Campaign, DNC funded Dossier. FBI CANNOT (after all of this time) VERIFY CLAIMS IN DOSSIER OF RUSSIA/TRUMP COLLUSION. FBI TAINTED.” And they used this Crooked Hillary pile of garbage as the basis for going after the Trump Campaign!” he wrote Tuesday.
